E&E News: Hill staffers, energy vets launch D.C. firm

Former Hill staffers from both sides of the aisle joined energy veterans today to launch a consulting firm, the Coefficient Group.

The new venture in Washington will focus on the policies, regulations and finance of new technologies and practices in the energy and environmental sector.

Pulling in Hill experience is Tom Hassenboehler, a top energy-focused GOP aide on the House Energy and Commerce Committee who worked as chief counsel to the Subcommittee on Energy and Power for the past four years.

Before joining the panel, Hassenboehler worked as vice president of policy and legislative affairs for the industry group America's Natural Gas Alliance and had a prior stint as counsel for the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee (Greenwire, Dec. 22, 2016).

The firm's managing partner is Tom Lawler, who most recently ran an advocacy firm, Lawler Strategies. Before that, he managed the Senate Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Clean Air and Nuclear Safety for ranking member Tom Carper (D-Del.), according to his online bio.

Lawler also served as deputy director of state and federal relations for former Republican Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts.

Two additional partners at the firm include Cameron Prell, formerly an attorney at Crowell & Moring LLP and an expert on environmental law and business, and Frank Fannon, most recently a top executive in the Washington office of the mining and petroleum giant BHP Billiton.
