Sean McGinnis is a Partner at CO2EFFICIENT. He brings over a decade of experience in national environmental policy initiatives, and draws on his experience in finance, communications, and environmental consulting to advance the business case for sustainability.

Sean’s policy expertise spans the water-energy-land use nexus and includes infrastructure and public-private partnerships, digitalization for decarbonization, and market-driven sustainability solutions. In 2022, Sean received Waste360’s 40 Under 40 Award as an inspiring and innovative professional who has made a significant contribution to the waste and recycling industry.

Before joining CO2EFFICIENT as Vice President in 2018, Sean worked with former U.S. EPA Acting Administrator Marianne Horinko as Director of The Horinko Group, an environmental consulting firm operating at the intersection of policy, science, and communications.

Previously, Sean was an International Credit Portfolio Manager for The Northern Trust Company, a global leader in investment management, asset and fund administration, fiduciary and banking solutions.

Drawing on his international finance experience, Sean previously served as Treasurer for the Water Resources Action Project, Inc., a D.C. based non-profit seeking to improve public health in the Middle East through greater water stewardship and education.

Sean received his Bachelor of Science in finance from the University of Illinois Gies College of Business and his Master of Arts in natural resources from the Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech).
