ASHLEY ALLEN
Ashley Allen serves as the Senior Advisor for Corporate Sustainability at CO2EFFICIENT. She brings nearly 20 years of climate change and sustainability leadership in both the public and private sectors. Ashley’s ability to navigate complex global organizations and form partnerships across cultures has enabled her to forge solutions to big global problems, like climate change and social justice issues. Ashley is also Founder and President of CSO Copilot LLC.
Prior to joining CO2EFFICIENT, Ashley was the Chief Sustainability Officer at Oatly where she built an industry-leading, purpose-driven Global Sustainability Department. Ashley designed and set a global corporate sustainability strategy, including a science-aligned, full value chain climate target. She helped make significant strides toward Oatly’s environmental and social goals, including sourcing 100% renewable electricity for operations in 2022, achieving 89% of packaging made from renewable or recycled materials, and improving diversity, equity, and inclusion among Oatly employees. Ashley launched new sustainable agriculture projects with oat farmers and spearheaded a new process to measure corporate climate impact, charting the emissions saved by helping people switch from cow’s milk to Oatly in major markets. She oversaw the global upgrade of Oatly’s reporting and disclosure system as they undertook an Initial Public Offering and prepared for a growing body of U.S., UK, and EU regulatory standards.
During her time at Oatly, Ashley was recognized as an AdWeek 50 Behind-the-Scenes Business Leaders, a Woman in Climate Leadership by Business Insider, and one of the “Badass Women Shaping Climate Action” by Greenbiz.
Previously, Ashley was a Senior Manager at Mars, Inc. where she led their climate change and land use programs. She helped Mars set their climate change goal and establish the first deforestation and land use policy, and she collaboratively developed a TCFD-aligned framework for climate resilience among consumer goods companies. In particular, she worked closely with Mars’ Cocoa Team to guide global procurement action and supply chain engagement to reduce Mars’ environmental impact.
Before joining the corporate sector, Ashley served for 10 years in the U.S. government at USAID, the U.S. Department of State, and the White House Council on Environmental Quality. She oversaw a $15 million global climate change partnership with developing countries, helped roll out President Obama’s Climate Action Plan, and led strategic communications and diplomacy with top government officials on climate policy. A highlight of her career, Ashley was a member of the U.S. government team led by Secretary of State John Kerry that negotiated the Paris Agreement on Climate Change in 2015.
Ashley holds a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources and Environmental Science from the University of Illinois and a Master of Public Affairs in International Environmental Policy from Indiana University.
